Job Description

Clean Harbors in York, PA is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Operator to support the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the facility’s wastewater treatment systems. This role is responsible for sampling, testing, treating, and monitoring water and wastewater to ensure compliance with all regulatory and operational standards.

Work Schedule: Thursday and Friday (10:00 AM - 6:30 PM) and Saturday and Sunday (6:00 AM - 6:30 PM).

Responsibilities:

  • Collect water and wastewater samples in accordance with established procedures.
  • Inspect and maintain sewage inlets and all connected piping systems.
  • Perform manual calculations of flow rates, pump times, and chemical usage.
  • Operate, monitor, and inspect plant process equipment, including pumps, screens, chemical feed systems, and water storage tanks.
  • Ensure continuous monitoring of treatment processes to maintain performance within regulatory and operational specifications.
  • Conduct routine laboratory tests to support treatment process optimization.
  • Accurately record operational data in logbooks and digital spreadsheets.
  • Assist in interpreting performance data and support process control adjustments as directed by supervisors.
  • Evaluate lab and process data against performance standards and initiate corrective actions as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records for reporting to internal stakeholders and external regulatory agencies.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to process operations and equipment functionality.
  • Stay informed on current industry practices, regulations, and procedures in the water and wastewater field.
  • Maintain all required certifications and licenses in good standing and promptly report any changes to supervision.

  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations accurately.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Prior experience in a related field such as water, wastewater, plumbing, mechanical, biology, or chemical industries is preferred.
  • Perform physical functions per job requirements.
  • Successfully complete a background check, drug test, and physical, by position.
  • Per OSHA's Respiratory Protection Standard, 29 CFR 1910.34, employees in positions requiring respirators are required to meet facial hair standards.
