Job Title: Trailer Sales Representative Department.

Sales Reports To: Sales.

Pay Range: $60,000-70,000 plus commission.

Manager / General Manager Location: Kansas City, Ks.

Job Type: Full-time, Commission-Based/Salary + Commission.

Hours: Monday through Friday (8:00am-5:00pm).

Job Summary:

The Trailer Sales Representative is responsible for selling heavy-duty trailers within an assigned territory. This role includes identifying and engaging potential customers, managing existing accounts, and overseeing the complete sales process. The representative must possess strong technical knowledge of trailer specifications and demonstrate effective sales and customer service capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Sales & Business Development:

  • Identify and engage potential customers such as owner-operators, fleet managers, logistics companies, and construction firms.
  • Build and maintain a pipeline of prospective buyers through cold calling, networking, referrals, and dealership-generated leads.
  • Conduct product presentations and demonstrations.
  • Prepare and present sales proposals, quotes, and financing options.
  • Negotiate pricing, trade-ins, and sales agreements.
  • Source inventory to meet customer and dealership needs.
  • Market used trailers to appropriate customer segments.
  • Record product performance and competitive activity in CRM.

Customer Relationship Management:

  • Build and maintain relationships with new and existing customers in assigned territory.
  • Assess customer needs and recommend appropriate products and financing solutions.
  • Provide post-sale support and follow-up to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain detailed records of customer interactions and transactions in CRM.
  • Coordinate with finance, service, and parts departments to support customer needs.
  • Follow up on repair status and ensure customer satisfaction.

Assigned Customer Base Management:

  • Maintain a minimum of two annual in-person documented CRM activities per assigned customer.
  • Conduct at least one quarterly documented CRM activity (call, email, or in-person).
  • Achieve a minimum of one equipment sale per customer within a 60-month buying cycle (extensions require management approval).
  • Ensure customers are within assigned territory unless approved by management.
  • Parent-child accounts are assigned to the same representative regardless of territory.

Product Knowledge & Industry Awareness:

  • Stay informed on industry trends, market conditions, and competitor offerings.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of truck specifications, pricing, and technology.
  • Advise customers on vehicle maintenance, warranties, and service packages.

Administrative & Compliance Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all sales transactions comply with dealership policies and applicable regulations.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure smooth customer experience.
  • Participate in dealership meetings, training, and promotional events.
  • Oversee equipment preparation and maintain a professional sales environment.
  • Coordinate equipment transportation and vendor reconditioning processes.
  • Maintain compliance with dealer license requirements and documentation.

Qualifications :

  • 2-5+ years of experience in heavy-duty truck sales or related fields (e.g., commercial vehicle sales, logistics, fleet management).
  • High School Diploma required, post-secondary education in sales, marketing, or related field preferred
  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) must be obtained within 18 months of hire.
  • Familiarity with heavy-duty trailers, including suspensions, refrigeration units, dump applications, and trailer spec’ing.
  • Strong negotiation, prospecting, and closing abilities.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience with CRM systems, Microsoft Office Suite, dealership sales software, and social media tools.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk dealership lot and inspect trucks and trailers.
  • Travel within assigned territory for customer meetings.
  • Attend industry events as needed.
