Salary Information: Salary Range is $70,740.80 to $95,430.40

Department Overview: Our police department operates using 12 hour shifts. Our primary goal is to engage with our residents and visitors to enhance public safety and engage in a partnership together to problem solve and keep the community of Middleburg Heights safe.
Our specialized units include a Canine Unit, Bicycle Unit, Detective Bureau, Southwest Enforcement Bureau (SWAT), and Mobile Field Force.
The Middleburg Heights Police Department continues to evolve and expand as it meets the needs and concerns of our citizens.
Area Information: The City of Middleburg Heights is approximately eight square miles and is located in Cuyahoga County, approximately 11 miles Southwest of downtown Cleveland.

Age: 21 prior to appointment
Citizenship Required: yes
High School Grad / GED: Required
Driver's License:
Required (If out of state the candidate will be required to obtain an Ohio license)
Ability to Read/Speak English: Required
College:
Bachelor's Degree; or four years of full-time active Military Service with honorable discharge; or associate degree and two years of law enforcement experience; or three years of law enforcement experience.
Academy Certification:
Not required, however additional credit is given to candidates who are (OPOTA) state certified.
Prior Experience: Not required
Additional Requirements:
Candidates shall also be required to submit to a thorough background check, polygraph examination, psychological and medical examination, physical agility examination, drug screen and any other additional methods necessary to ascertain the qualifications and abilities of the candidate.
Hiring Process:
All candidates scoring 70% and above on the examination will be placed on the eligibility list. Upon notification of an opening, the Civil Service Commission will certify names to the Police Chief for further consideration.
Additional Credit:
Candidates who have received a passing score of 70% or more, shall be granted the following additional credit for higher education, training and military service providing the candidate has furnished proof of successful completion of the following:
Military Service- additional credit of 10% of grade (Copy of DD214 with Honorable Discharge) Service of less than 180 consecutive days shall not be eligible for credit
Bachelor Degree- additional credit of 5% of grade for a degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Criminology or Justice Studies from an accredited college or university
Current Ohio Police Officer Training Academy(OPOTA) certification for full time officer - additional credit of 2% of grade
