HEAD JANITOR – NIGHT SHIFT

POSITION SUMMARY:The Head Janitor assists the supervisor to achieve department goals in safety, quality, and efficiency by providing work direction to janitorial staff and verification of their work.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Monitors janitorial staff and verifies their performance.  Provides feedback to the supervisor and works with others to plan and implement process improvements.
• Performs checks to monitor cleaning quality levels and implements necessary changes to maintain quality standards, signing off on required documentation as needed.
• Provides work direction to janitors to achieve department goals effectively and efficiently.  Assists the supervisor in determining work assignments and makes changes as necessary to accommodate staffing and production needs.
• Trains janitors in proper cleaning techniques and motivates them to achieve their maximum quality and productivity performance levels.
• Completes weekly inventory check to ensure cleaning supply and personal hygiene inventories are maintained.
• Maintains appropriate supply levels on carts and in closets daily for the next shift
• Informs Supervisor regarding issues and Maintenance regarding needed repairs as well as being the contact for leadership regarding janitorial concerns or issues.
• Offers feedback for team member’s performance evaluation to the supervisor.
• Promotes department and company goodwill through proactive team member communication. Supports and promotes company position on union free status by maintaining open communication and feedback to team members.
• Leads janitorial staff in daily stretches, recognizes safety hazards, performs safety audits and assists with accident investigation. 
• Assists in developing SOPs as needed.
• Backup all department positions as needed.
• Other duties as required.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS and BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Knowledge of methods of industrial cleaning, safety practices and procedures, preferred
• Demonstrated ability to read, write, and speak English
• Demonstrated ability to perform basic math skills including: addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, and percentage calculations
• Ability to pass a Prove It test
• Working knowledge of supervisory management practices and principles
• Ability to follow both written and verbal directions
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence in English
• Ability to read and interpret procedures, specifications, and other documents
• Ability to communicate effectively with others in a manner that maintains harmony with coworkers
• Ability to analyze and respond to issues or problems
• Basic computer skills including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and graphics
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of unknowns
• Ability to perform all positions within the department
