The Sonnenalp Hotel is looking for a local culinary student with the desired start date of June. This position will be open for 5 days.

Wage: $17.50/hour, plus a culinary appreciation fee

Overview

We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated Culinary and Pastry Interns to join our dynamic kitchen team. This internship is designed for students or recent graduates pursuing a culinary or baking/pastry arts degree who are eager to gain hands-on experience in a high-volume, professional kitchen. Interns will rotate through various kitchen stations, assisting in food preparation, baking, plating, and kitchen operations while learning from industry professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with the preparation and execution of menu items under the supervision of experienced chefs.
• Support mise en place and daily kitchen operations for both savory and pastry production.
• Learn proper food handling, safety, sanitation, and storage procedures.
• Participate in baking, pastry, and plated dessert preparation, including breads, cakes, tarts, and confections.
• Collaborate with team members to maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment.
• Attend team meetings and training sessions to expand culinary knowledge and technique.
• Rotate through various stations including prep, garde manger, hot line, and pastry kitchen.
• Assist in inventory checks, receiving orders, and proper storage of ingredients.
• Contribute to menu planning sessions and seasonal specials, offering input where appropriate.
• Practice proper plating techniques to ensure consistency and visual appeal.
• Participate in special events, banquets, or tastings as needed.
• Shadow chefs and pastry team to gain insight into kitchen leadership and production management.

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a culinary or pastry arts program.
• Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and willingness to learn.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
• Must be able to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
