Job Description Bus Driver Instructor

Under general supervision and direction of the Transportation Director, the Training Supervisor is responsible for both behind-the-wheel and classroom training programs; assists in the investigation of accidents and/or personnel involving district vehicles; prepares records and reports on training activities including original trainee records and ongoing records for all school bus drivers pursuant to requirements mandated by law; operate a school bus as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience: Completion of twelfth grade or equivalent; Completion of California Department of Education (CDE) School Bus Driver Instructor Course. Certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire date.
Certification: Valid California Class A or B operator's license employee entrance medical evaluation: Current California State Certified Bus Driver Instructor Certificate with nothing more than automatic transmission restriction
The Bus Driver Instructor must be certified by the California Department of Education (CDE) and California High Patrol to provide classroom and behind-the-wheel training. This position differs from that of the Bus Driver in that it is a senior-level position and evaluates the work performance of prospective and current bus driver personnel. The Bus Driver instructor will conduct training programs for new and veteran drivers and will develop training materials that comply with all vehicle codes and regulations and bus safety techniques.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical abilities include the usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions and require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing, some stooping, kneeling, crouching; reaching, handling, touching and/or feeling; manual dexterity to operate a bus, climb steps, and reach overhead.
Significant physical abilities include the ability to sit at a desk, conference table, or in meetings of various configurations for extended periods of time; see and read, with or without visual aids, laws and codes, rules, policies and other printed matter, computer screens and printouts; read traffic signage, hear and understand speech at normal room levels and hear and understand speech on the telephone or radio; speak in audible tones aloud and on the radio so that others may understand clearly in normal conversations and over the sounds encountered while operating the bus.
