GENERAL SALES MANAGER

Job SummaryCerritos Nissan & Infiniti is seeking an experienced General Sales Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate must have strong knowledge of automotive sales, the automotive industry, and sales management strategies, as well as an understanding of customer service and marketing principles. The General Sales Manager will oversee all day-to-day operations within the sales department and will be responsible for guiding sales staff and meeting or exceeding sales goals.Compensation & BenefitsThe compensation for this position is based on experience and performance, with a range of $150,000 to $200,000 annually. ESSENTIAL DUTIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Hires, trains, motivates, supervises, and monitors the performance of the new and used vehicle department managers.
  • Drives CSI policies and procedures and ensures the CSI stays above Zone.
  • Participates in the preparation of the annual dealership forecast by projecting unit sales, gross profits, expenses, and operating profits for the new and used sales departments.
  • Meets with sales managers to establish annual and monthly objectives for unit sales, gross profits, expenses, and operating profit.
  • Ensures that sales managers understand & strictly follow dealership policies, procedures, and sales systems.
  • Works with dealer and General Manager to determine appropriate days supply for new and used vehicles and orders/acquires vehicle inventory accordingly.
  • Establishes standards for displaying, merchandising, and maintaining new and used vehicles.
  • Establishes procedures for quick disposal of over aged vehicles.
  • Audits repair orders for used vehicles as needed to ensure prompt reconditioning.
  • Meets with the General Manager to review monthly forecasts, commission sheets, productivity reports, and the profit performance of each department as a whole and each salesperson individually.
  • Studies local market conditions, demographics, and past sales history. Makes recommendations to the general manager regarding short- and long-range advertising plans, sales promotions, staffing needs, lease promotions, and compensation plans.
  • Coach the team on time management to maximize efficiency, reviewing daily planners to ensure follow-up targets are met.
Ideal Candidate Requirements:
  • Minimum of five years of experience in similar roles within a dealership or dealership group.
  • A track record of maximizing sales team profitability and market share.
  • The ability to inspire sales teams by setting individual and team performance benchmarks.
  • Expertise in managing and maintaining sales department budgets.
  • Strong negotiation, closing, and marketing skills that positively impact sales.
  • A commitment to delivering world-class customer experiences, responsiveness, and follow-up.
Required Experience:
  • Automotive: 5 years (Required)
  • Sales: 3 years (Required)
  • Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Proven track record of successfully meeting and exceeding sales goals.
  • ADP Dealer Services Experience a plus.
  • Consistent and stable work history.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Professional appearance and work ethic.
  • Self-motivated, goal oriented and enthusiastic presence in a team environment.
  • Excellent customer service, organizational and negotiation / closing skills.
  • Strong written and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, and Word).
