Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
Golf course in Sharon, Massachusetts is looking for an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent.
Position Overview:
Reports directly to the golf course superintendent. Under the superintendent’s supervision the position directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course. The position may serve in the superintendent’s capacity during his/her absence.
Typical Functions:
• Assists in the planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and other landscape areas.
• Schedules work, supervises the employees, and the use of equipment.
• Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing.
• Applies pesticides and fertilizers and takes care of the sprayer to ensure proper application of pesticides and fertilizers and keeps accurate records.
• Participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, irrigation system, and drainage systems. Able to repair Toro 670, 750, and 800 series sprinklers.
• Assists in the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment.
• Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety, discipline, and may also modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.
Requirements:
Two year degree preferred a turf certificate at a minimum.
Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, greens; the seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; the planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation system, including wells, pumps and automatic controls. Ability to schedule, supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; to prepare clear and concise reports; and to maintain effective employee relations.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Required to have a current Massachusetts pesticide applicator license or obtain one within sixty days.
Compensation:
$60,000 – $75,000 per year.
